People now understand that empowered and self-organizing teams perform better. Unfortunately it is extremely difficult to find the balance between control and empowerment that works for your situation. Even more difficult is evolving the empowerment over time as your teams mature. We present a clear and concise acronym that can help you to empower your teams: BEGIN – Boundaries, Empowerment, Goals, Ingredients, Nurture. BEGIN can be used as a checklist to ensure that you cover the necessary elements of empowerment. This session is a mix of workshop and lecture. Attendees will participate in exercises designed to illuminate the problems of self-organization and learn how BEGIN can be used to create and nurture empowerment.
